The Section also spearheads the Yusuf Matashi "Catch Them Young" program (YMCTY) along with other Sections in Nigeria, which aims to introduce the vision of SPE International to elementary and high school students. The primary objective of the YMCTY program is to inspire an interest in pursuing careers within the energy industry among high school students. Key components of the YMCTY program encompass career talks, shedding light on the prospects and prerequisites for a career in the oil and gas industry, and visits to industry sites where feasible. Furthermore, the program includes essay and quiz competitions to identify the top three students from the Section, who are subsequently presented with awards during the Section's Annual General Meeting (AGM).
Since its inception in 1973, the Section has been led by 47 Section chairpersons who have managed its affairs. Presently, Mr. Oluwabiyi Awotiku serves as the 48th Chairperson.
